This layout was created for the What The Flick challenge, the movie being Born On The Fourth Of July with Tom Cruise.

My inspiration cames from the movie's plot, which dealt with Viet Nam. This made me think of our lost men in Iraq and Afghanistan. I saw a short poem on Facebook, and after I googled it, I found that it's roots take us back to projects.militarytimes. com. This soldier's prayer was posted on the page of Army Sgt. Kevin A Gilbertson, who died on August 31, 2007 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I knew right away.. this would be my layout.

I chose Connie Prince's kit, This or That: Made in America for the primary source. I took one layer from Jen C. Design's July Grab Bag Template Blendables, Vol 2, Temp1. The curled flag is from JS Scrap. The font: Monotype Corisva.

The funny part of this is.. my brother served in the Air Force - a lifer. His first tour of duty was Viet Nam. And the last was Saudi Arabia, Desert Storm. When I met him at the airport, I said, Aren't you getting a little old for this already? Maybe now you will retire?

He did. Thankfully. If he had not, I know he would be in Afghanistan still today. That all said, here is my layout.. and I am thankful for the inspiration for this layout.
