First time making my mom's recipe.

I wonder if I summoned a heavenly jinx.

I’ve been craving Mom’s Baked Macaroni and Cheese for a few weeks. It was one of the dishes I loved as a kid and a recipe I got from mom the spring before she died. For over a decade I’ve had that recipe but haven’t made it.

David’s not a fan of mac & cheese. He was working late the night of the Reds and Pirates playoff game and I decided that made a great night to feed my craving and finally give my first try at Mom’s recipe.

I assembled the baking dish during the pregame show and popped it in the oven. It needed 40 minutes to bake and the whole house smelled like a visit from heaven during the first couple innings.

The taste was good for my first try. Next time I’ll use the full amount of cheese and add a little salt. Comfort food is supposed to be more comforting than healthy. But there will definitely be a next time.

In the end my inner child and a happy tummy but my Reds lost. Mom and I did not share favorite National League teams; she was a Pirates fan. Hmmm…
