Journaling Reads:When I was a young girl, my grandparents enjoyed traveling to visit family had no heat except for an old wood stove. I don’t recall how old I was the first time a Tupperware cup with bracingly strong coffee and hot milk was placed into my chilled, but grateful, hands.
As an adult, I graduated to the traditional coffee pot in my kitchen. When someone visited my home they were invited to sit a spell, have a bite to eat and a cup of coffee. I was proud of that.
When I met my sweet husband, he encouraged my desire to learn, and one of the things that wanted to learn about was coffee. He and I have been to a few classes about how coffee is grown and all of the different things that affect the flavor of the coffee we drink. We have tried it as a pour over, espresso, macchiato, latte, iced, mocha, affriato and cold brew.
Now my husband and I have weekend morning coffee dates. We plan the week to come. We discuss schoolwork, doctor visits, money plans and work. Sometimes we just laugh and tease each other or flirt shamelessly. We always go to the same place, so everyone knows us. It feels like visiting good friends, so we are relaxed and can enjoy our coffee and each other.
Coffee to me means that I am safe, and warm, and everything that comes after is…cake!
