The year was 1941 - Dad was a senior at Rock Falls High School.  He was a star varsity football player and was offered a full football scholarship to Eureka College.  He was both proud & excited to accept the offer - however - news that Pearl Harbor had been attacked changed his plans forever.  Instead of going off to college he was drafted in to the Army.  Four months after his high school graduation he found himself at boot camp in Missouri.  He was stationed in Germany and France throughout the 3 years he served in WWII. Dad often talked of his football glory days and he shared about the years he'd served in the war.  He never once complained that things hadn't worked out the way he thought they would have.  Instead he had chosen to put his faith in God and knew God's plan would be far better than anything he might have ever wished for.  I am proud of the man Dad was ... he was a wonderful caring husband and father to my sisters and me - he was a faithful Christian - one that was proud to say he was a World War II veteran.  He will always be my HERO.
