journaling:Oh, I don’t know. When I think of California I suppose I expected to see seagulls and sea lions, but I was really taken aback when we were visiting some of the wineries. I never expected to see an emu or even a peacock for that matter. But the one sighting that took us ALL by surprise happened as we were driving on California State Hwy 1. We saw a group of cars pulled over to the side of the road and all the occupants were out taking pictures. We slowed down just to see what they were photographing and to our amazement, we saw a herd of zebra!! Wow! We must have taken a wrong turn somewhere if we were seeing zebra grazing in a field along the road. We checked, and sure enough we were STILL in California. Phew! Crazy things have happened on some of our trips, and this one is right there at the top.
