I love the way that the sunlight bounces off your golden brown hair. It means that summer is finally here. We are already having such a blast this summer with days full of swim lessons, tee-ball, summer school and camping! As we dove into our summertime fun, it is hard to imagine that I get to spend the summer with you. After your second year of pre-k, I appreciate this time with you more than ever before. It is hard to put into words just how much you have grown this last year but it is so true. You make me one proud mommy! Just looking at photos of you can brings tears to my eyes. I’m looking forward to making many new memories and going on lots of fun adventures with you this summer. And shoot, as long as I am with you, it will be the best summer ever. I know I need to let you spread your wings and start making that transition from little girl to bigger girl (after all, you will be 6 pretty soon) and eventually to a young lady who has spread her wings entirely, but there’s such a big part of me that’s just not ready for that.  For that reason, I want so much to soak up all of the special moments – and the ordinary ones, too – we get to share together this summer and next.

Truth be told, though, you’ve already begun spreading those wings of yours.  You’re such an independent little soul in so many ways right now . You want to do so many things that sissy and brother do, so you watch there lead, and then you’re ready to branch out and try them on your own.  You love to do everything from buckling and unbuckling your own carseat, to pouring your own milk in your cereal in the mornings to climbing on the kitchen counter to get your own cup out of the cabinet.  You love to wander and explore, and you have such a fantastically curious side.  That independent, “I can do it” attitude is just one of the 8,452,679 things I love about you, and your desire to do things for yourself and to take care of things on your own will get you far in life.  But no matter where you go on your own, know that your family will always be there with you every step of the way – either physically by your side or spiritually in your heart.

I love you, my sweet little Doodle.  Spread your wings (just not too far right now), and enjoy all that this life has to offer.  I know you do.  And I know you have so much to offer in return.
