Journal:
I spotted the cutest little lamp on one of our lazy browses through a local antique shop. I fell in love with it, because it is so whimsical. It has a little bunny with an open book on its lap, and the book starts out with the words, “Once upon a time ...”. I showed it to Ry, and of course he told me that if I truly loved it I should buy it. I didn’t, though, because it was pricey and it was a “want not a need”. Every time we visited the antique shop I would make my way to the section where the lamp was displayed and verify that it was still there. Finally around the time of my birthday I was met with disappointment, because the bunny lamp was gone. I hoped it had found a good home ... hopefully with a little girl that had a blossoming love for reading a good book.
Later, when we all got together and celebrated my birthday, Ry disappeared for a bit and returned with a gift bag. Inside was the bunny lamp!
So, about two weeks ago the lamp was my inspiration to makeover the extra bedroom. I decided to use some family heirlooms. Things like my Mama’s antique bed, dresser and side table. And, my Nanny’s lace doilies and quilts. There is an old shelf of Mama’s and some of the wonderful things she painted. There is a watercolor painting by my Aunt Carole, and several other things that she gave me over time. I even included some of the things I created to decorate Mickey and Katherine’s rehearsal dinner like the fabric garland made using old fabrics from my Nanny’s stash. The lamp is adorable sitting on Mama’s old table by the bed. The room has a peaceful, quiet and calm feel to it. When I step into it, I am surrounded by wonderful memories of some of the most precious ladies in my life. Once upon a time ... a little girl was surrounded by women who influenced her life in a positive way and she is grateful.
