JOURNALING: The Crew held their “reveal” party in the Arena District 10/8/14 and over 1500 invited guests lined up down the block to enter the LC Pavilion for the big event. Team officials, players, and coaches were on stage when the new name and badge for the local soccer team were finally revealed. In 2015, they will be officially known as the ”Columbus Crew SC” and sport a new logo, sending the original construction crew onto the  unemployment line. The new badge takes its circle design cue from the Ohio state flag. The 96 represents the year the league began play and it rests on a field of 9 stripes that represent the other original teams. The concentric circles are to show how the new Crew culture encompasses the team, the organization, the fans, and the city, which, for the first time will appear in the team’s name. The checkerboard is an homage to the Nordecke where the fan supporter groups sit and fly their famous checkered flags.
