After the wait for past Halloween to be allowed to bring a black cat home from the shelter, we went back to bring “Sassy” home to become our Carla! (Black cats are often cruelly “adopted” as party decorations or to be abused “for fun” on Halloween, so our shelter won’t allow black cats to leave the shelter until November if they’re adopted in October. Which is awesome; and our Carla was worth that wait to keep black cats safe.)

Sassy:  “It’s been 8 days since they put that sign on my cage. ‘Adopted.’ That’s supposed to mean a forever home, but not for me. Maybe they changed their mind. I wanted them to mean it. I wanted to go home with them.”

It had been just over a week since we met and fell in love with Sassy. The shelter’s policy about not taking black cats home in October for their protection is a great policy but we were gong crazy waiting to pick up the new member of our family, christen her Carla Yastrzemski and begin the process of integrating her into Baggle’s and Kaline’s world.
