Journaling: The new chair is a zero gravity lift chair recliner. I wanted a recliner that was high enough that I could actually get out of it and transfer back to my power chair so I could sit back and relax when I’m downstairs. After a few nights last December when I slept in the power chair because my legs just wouldn’t get me up that last step to the bedroom level when David was out of town the doctor wanted changes made. She said I needed a chair I could transfer into to avoid pressure sores from the power wheelchair and she also told me in no uncertain terms that sleeping in the power chair was bad for the edema I already have and that it did nothing to actually rest my legs. This chair is supportive to my back and softer to places the power chair pressures. It reclines to a safe sleeping position, raises swollen ankles above the trunk of the body and keeps my feet up for TV or reading. Yes, it relaxes my legs by stretching them out, helps to relieve the swelling and it lifts me up when I’m getting out of the chair to whatever height I might need on any given day. It also makes me glad we don’t have any kids to put through college because it might have cost one of them freshman year.
