Since people have been wondering what this photo is, it was taken in September at the Columbus Zoo and is a "flying fox" or "fruit bat," the largest of the bats with wingspans that can reach to 4 feet and they can weigh up to 2 1/2 pounds. He is "sleeping" hanging upside down. These are the bats I associate with Halloween.


I'm quite fond of bats, although I prefer little brown bats (more common in this part of the country [Ohio]) and vampire bats, which are my favorites. I find them quite cute. They are WAY smaller than these big fruit bats.
