Whenever we talked about wanting to visit the Tar Pits, our friend who grew up in La Brea told us it wasn’t worth the trip. This year we ignored his advice and made the visit. We were totally fascinated with the area. They are excavating full skeletons of Mastodon, Saber Tooth tigers, giant sloths, Dare Wolves and many more unfortunate animals who were trapped in the viscous tar in the pits. They would slide down the slope into the tar and with every attempt to extract themselves they would be pulled further down, and being exhausted they would lie down and perish. The most fascinating part about the tar pits is they are located in the heart of Los Angeles abutting up to Hollywood.
