Journaling: I have driven by the Willamette Falls so very many times, and have stopped to grab a quick photo or two when the water was so high it was no longer a waterfall, or when the sun was at the perfect angle to create a beautiful rainbow in the fall’s spray.  Today, however, I stopped and looked farther than just the falls.  I knew this was a former stink...errrr...paper mill, but wasn’t aware that it was originally built by The Willamette Falls Electric Company (later known as Portland General Electric), and was the first long distance transmission of electricity in the United States.

Recently, there’s been talk on the news about turning this area into a waterpark, complete with a kayaking area, white water rafting area, and a foodie area being an island in the middle of it all.  The preliminary renderings are gorgeous, and the added tourism would certainly revitalize a tired Oregon City.

With this latest information, and as I was looking at the most commanding view, the falls, I began to think differently about this area.  I thought it would be a fun idea to capture the site as it is now...the whole place.  And when construction begins, stop by and take a series of photos of the progress, and then, obviously, of the completed project.

I know that’s not a novel idea, but it’s one that I think I’m ready to pull the trigger on.  I’m waiting for the sun to once again show it’s face on a weekday, and I’ll be taking a photo safari you know where!
