JOURNALING:
Actors' Theatre of Columbus is celebrating its 35th season of presenting a summer season of Shakespeare and other relevant plays on weekends in Schiller Park in German Village on the south side of downtown Columbus OH. This year will see its 100th production. On a whim, I decided to take the adult acting class presented by the Globe School at Actors' Theatre - five weeks of 2-hour classes on various subjects such as scene study, stage fighting, improv. I should have read the info a bit more carefully. I knew the classes would be followed by 6 weeks of class members presenting short scenes and doing improv, 5 prior to the Sunday performance of the main play and 1 performance at the summer Arts Festival in downtown Columbus. I thought each class member would do one or two shows, not ALL 6 WEEKS!

I didn't break my leg, but, during the first rehearsal on stage of our scenes (I was in 3 of them), as I was walking from one part of the multi-level stage to another, I fell right down on my knees! I really didn't think it was as bad as it turned out to be, and I continued with the rehearsal. But, by the next day, I could barely walk. I thought things were getting better, but, on the Friday before our first Sunday performance, I went to the grocery store and could barely make it around the store. I had to call the teacher and tell him I wouldn't be there for the first show. It was rained out, anyway! I was actually nervous about performing, but, after the first show, I realized it was fun! One of the teacher's favorite lines is, "There is a reason they call it 'play'."
