Journaling : It is a long weekend, perfectly timed for the most glorious weather! We set off for Torino on Wednesday afternoon. After an easy drive of about 4 hrs we reach NH Lingotto where I have booked 3 nights. This is my surprise for Bapi as the hotel is a converted Fiat factory with a test track on its roof! He sure gets a thrill from it! We decide that this little holiday is in celebration of Bapi’s new position at work. Thursday is a full-on day. We go into Torino by metro and join a walking tour in the morning. In the afternoon, we check out the shroud and then visit the palace. I just love the Palazzo Reale’s interiors, how glitzy! Friday morning, we start with the Museo dell’Automobile which Bapi enjoys tremendously. Then we drive first to Sacra di San Michele, an abbey perched on top of a hill. A great experience, what an amazing place! After a short visit to Avigliana, we drive to Susa, a very charming town. After checking out on Saturday morning we drive to Asti, a little town full of life and colour. I fall in love with the cathedral with its painted interiors. Such an air of light and beauty! We then drive to Alba where we have lunch in a very nice osteria. Alba has some nice squares and architecture too. Then lastly to Vercelli to see the basilica which is very impressive from outside but rather plain from inside. The town itself doesn’t attract me much but we probably did a poor job of exploring it. That is the essentially the end of the holiday, only the long drive home remains.
