I love this qoute. I am not fast but I can persevere. I ran Leg # 1 of the Ragnar through Anaheim, California. It ended up being the “concrete jungle.” I ran on an asphalt trail alongside a big empty concrete draining ditch the size of a freeway. On the other side of the trail was a concrete wall. It ended up being VERY hot despite the fact that it was 9 in the morning. I had to go under about 15 overpasses, almost all of which had homeless people living under them. It was a difficult and very HOT adventure. I ran my heart out all 5.3 miles. I was so excited when I came up that last hill at the exchange station. Amy snapped this photo of me and says it’s my “possessed” look. I was just so darn thrilled it was over! 5.3 miles of NO scenery, lots of homeless people and some serious heat. I was even about 5-7 minutes ahead of schedule so my next runner was caught a little off guard. Apparently they had just showed up thinking they still had some time. AWESOME!!!! I was faster than I planned! I started this running journey 9 months ago. I am still 30 pounds overweight and I am still seriously slow but I am doing it! I am running! I still don’t love it but I am doing something hard. I am doing something I never thought possible for myself. I am a runner! I am doing hard things!”
