This is for a challenge at another site. We were given a vintage photo and had to make up a story about it then scrap a page. I always like to include a little truth along with my tale - Annie Oakley was born in Ohio and her real first name was Phoebe.

JOURNALING: Mother used to tell us fantastic stories about Grandma Phoebe who passed away before I was born. One I remember had to do with Annie Oakley. Mom said Grandma Phoebe used to pretend SHE was Annie Oakley, because they came from the same small town in Ohio and both were named Phoebe! The story is told that Grandma Phoebe amassed a fortune by playing poker with high rollers. Supposedly she would pull out a gun and “invite” the men to either play poker with her or engage in a shooting match. Knowing Annie Oakley’s reputation with a gun, the men always would opt to play poker. Turns out, Phoebe was a sensational poker player, although some say she hid high cards in the hat she always wore (but that’s another story). Phoebe surprised the poker players with her prowess with the cards and usually came out the big winner. Mother said Phoebe never even loaded the pistol! When I was clearing out the attic one day I came across several old photos and this one of Phoebe caught my attention – maybe the “Fantastic Phoebe Fables” were real after all!
