A blooming agave is not a good thing. In a roundabout way it is, I guess. When an agave blooms, it's a sign that it's ready to die. The mother blooms grow tall and spread out at the top. When the plant [mother] falls, the little baby seeds spread out over the desert floor and keep the future bright for agave plants. An agave takes 15 to 20 years to bloom, depending on how much water it gets. It's a rare thing to see in one's own yard. In the desert, you see them everywhere. This is the first one I've seen of my own that bloomed.
