My Niece Mia this past Easter. My sister in law and husband adopted 2 older girls from the Philippines. Mia has had a rougher time adjusting since she had a very hard life in her biological family home, with much abuse. She has had a ton of therapy, and her mom and dad are FANTASTIC parents and have really worked hard to get her to come out of her shell, and has come a long way.
The journaling:

Between you and your sister, you are the quiet one, and we always see you in the background taking it all in. So sweet and loving, with such a beautiful smile, although we don’t see it much. In the last 5 years, and since the adoption, we have watched You blossom more and more each year. You have come a long way since coming to live with your new family, and are so special to all of us. We adore you, and love having you and your sister as our Nieces.
