This is a young, volunteer tree that was little more than a bush until this year. This fall, I noticed that the possums were paying a lot of attention to it, and lots of birds were hanging out in it. I finally walked over to it to see what it was and discovered that it was a wild persimmon tree with tiny little persimmons, only about an inch in diameter. This was the last one still on the tree, although there were a couple on the ground. Apparently they have been providing treats to the animals here. I know that as it grows, the size of the fruit will increase, too.
