Journaling reads: For me, there is nothing sadder than seeing a wonderful building torn down and replaced with some glass and concrete monstrosity. Maybe it's because, I myself, have been 'vintage' for more than a few years now. Sometimes it's hard to look at things that were brand new to me and considered 'antique' now. When Denver Fire Station 26 needed bigger digs, they  built a new one, and luckily for lovers of craft beers they didn't tear the old station down; and for lovers of 'more mature' buildings, the new one was built with a nod to past architecture. Much of the old firehouse was preserved, isn't preserved a wonderful word? Firehouse patches from all over the world decorate the wall behind the bar. If you look to the far right in the beer barrel (polka anyone?) picture you will see the poles the firemen slid down from upstairs when the alarm sounded. Speaking of upstairs, the upstairs was turned into living quarters and voila, the firehouse received a new lease on life and Station 26 Brewing was born.  We ordered 2 flights so we could 'taste' 8 of their beers. I must say, they were the largest 'tastes' on a flight that I think I've ever seen. We liked 7 out of the 8. Beers with citrus notes, just don't really appeal, but the other 7 were very appealing. I've developed a taste for dark beers, ok, maybe any beer. Wendell had a couple of swallows of each and then I was given the task of finishing them, dirty job, but somebody had to do it. Waste not, want not........ and no, it wasn't 'walk' not.
