As a teenager in the mid-80s, I was recommended the book: A Dry White Season by André Brink. It was the first book I read about apartheid in Africa. Having been born and living a safe and comfortable life in Norway, the book horrified me but I continued reading. I still have it. Every few years I pick it up again. Even now, it's a hard book to read.
