The village of Belleek straddles the border between Fermanagh and Donegal and also between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. The border actually runs right through the middle of this bridge across the River Erne. The Belleek Pottery sits just over the bridge in Fermanagh and has been here since 1863. The railway line was brought here solely to carry coal for the kilns. The porcelain produced here is known around the world for its delicacy and the characteristic oatmeal colour of the glazed china. Dianne couldn't resist buying a teapot and two mugs that she had shipped home. My purchases were limited to some Christmas ornaments and a pair of tiny hand-formed rose earrings. I wish I could have gotten something more substantial...
