“It has been the longest month of our lives. Matthew sent in his papers for his mission and then it was a waiting game for the Bishop and Stake President to sign off and officially submit them. Then it was a torturous 3 weeks until the call finally arrived. Monday, March 14, 2011 Matthew plodded up to the Stake President’s office to find out the status and was told the call was in the mail. This also happened to be his 19th birthday...what a great birthday present. Now we just had to wait a little longer. The post office called mom on Wednesday (March 16) to tell her the call had arrived. She hurried over to the post office to pick it up. Just a little more waiting...we were getting good at waiting. We weren’t going to open it until Friday evening when the whole family could gather to watch and Matthew could come home from college. It was a long two days but we finally made it. We spent a great deal of time on Facebook torturing him and gathering great tips on how to open the envelope without anyone knowing. We learned that if you pop it in the freezer it will unseal on it’s own. We also learned about steaming and resealing techniques. We were driving Matthew absolutely insane. It was hillarious! Friday night FINALLY arrived and we got the big news as to where he would spend the next two years of his life serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. With all the family and many friends and church leaders gathered together, he finally got to open this amazing envelope!”
