When driving to the Nature Center on the federal side of Horicon we spotted a killdeer close to the road. Greg stopped the car gently and I got out to try to get a close up. As I slowly got closer to it, it suddenly went into its broken wing mode. That’s what it does to lead predators away from the nest. (They think the bird will be an easy target as it’s hurt.) Greg spotted the nest just outside his window. They make their nest in rocks and this one was at the side of the road. I took a couple pictures and then we left so we didn’t disturb them too much.
