Journaling: When my baby was just 18 months old,
she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
My first thought was...
This is not my Fault
Then I thought This Can’t be Happening
Even simple illnesses become really big deals.
She ended up in ICU at 4 years old from strep
throat!! Many days I ask Will this Day ever end
However, these are not my biggest
fears, my biggest fear is what is
called “dead in bed” syndrome.
Parents of newborns worry about
SIDS and check their babies often.
A parent of a child with Type 1, have
the same fear every night. Will her
insulin work? Will she go low? Will
she have a seizure? Will she wake up?
It is this fear that causes me to set
my alarm twice a night to test her blood
sugar. It is the fear that causes me
to hold my breath as I walk to her
room. It is this fear that make my
blood run cold when my baby gets sick.
This is a fear that NO parent should
ever have to experience!
