Journaling: With a wingspan up to 9.5 feet, the American White Pelican is one of North America’s largest birds.  Unlike it’s brown relatives, it does not live year round in Florida but summers in western Canada and northwestern United States.  Instead of plunging into the water to catch fish like brown pelicans do, white pelicans float on the surface, submerge their heads and scoop up fish in their large beaks.  They often fish cooperatively in small groups.
