As with any good road trip, there needs to be music. The music I brought along is mostly golden oldies with a few country, reggae, kids songs, and folk music on it. There are a few special songs in the playlist just for me. One of these songs popped up and Carol just started laughing. Then she and I started singing. LOUDLY! The rest of the troupe looked at us like we were crazy.  (mostly cuz we are! ha ha)  Of course at the end of the song, we kind of had to explain a bit. We told them about summers when we were kids. Mom, Aunt Beulah, and Joyce had kids within months or days of each other. Carol being one of the 3. Anyway, the 3 women got together and created “Surprise Days”. Once a week we would do something special. We never knew what it was going to be. A ride on the passenger train, Afternoon at the pool, Fun at the trampoline center (we had to leave early because Mom and Joyce got to laughing so hard they both peed their pants!)  At some point, our sister, Audrey, started teaching us fun songs. Once we perfected the song, we would gather the 3 women together and sing the “song of the moment” to them. As loudly as we could! One of these songs happened to be “One Eyed, One Horned, Flyin’ Purple People Eater”. The perfect ending to this is that it was Audrey, many years later, that found a purple people eater toy and gave it to Joyce’s daughter, Diane!  From there the fun and laughter continued as we drove and everyone told stories from their childhood!

“I said Mr Purple People Eater what's your line

He said eating purple people and it sure is fine

But that's not the reason that I came to land

I wanna get a job in a rock 'n roll band

Well, bless my soul rock 'n roll flying' purple people eater

Pigeon-toed under-growed flyin' purple people eater

One-eyed one-horned it was a people eater

What a sight to see!”
