May 17, my daughter, Laurie, called me from work to ask me to change out her laundry. Instead, she discovered that I was in trouble. I was talking nonsense, but she managed to piece together enough information to call her husband, Mike, and alert him to the basics. He in turn called 9-1-1 and then his mother, Marcia (who lives 5-minutes away), to come to sit with me until the ambulance could make the 30-minute trek up the hill to the house. Needless to say, I was transported and subsequently admitted to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa. My diagnosis was a stroke. Three weeks later I was transported back to Queen of the Valley via Mike & Laurie truck. This time I was having cardiac symptoms. My blood pressure was through the roof. In fact, the cuff aired up so tight to get a reading that it popped a blood vessel in my forearm! Enzyme levels were running high, right at the top of the acceptable range. Hours later the final blood work showed enzyme levels back at zero so I was released with the warning that it was definitely a cardiac event and the name of a local cardiologist-I'm to have a stress test. Ugh!
