JOURNALING:
Mademoiselle from Armentieres
I found this old photo tucked away in a relative\'s scrapbook and noticed the word "Mademoiselle" written in the lower left corner. That reminded me of the old French ditty popular with the French army in the mid-1830\'s called "Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous." The English revived it during WWI, naming it "Mademoiselle from Armentieres." Wikipedia states, "original words told of the encounter of an inn-keeper\'s daughter, named Mademoiselle de Bar le Duc, with two German officers." There have been many versions of it over the years, some a bit "risque" during their time. I thought the following lyrics fit with this picture.
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres,
  Parley-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres,
  Parley-vous
The cooties rambled through her hair;
She whispered sweetly "C\'est la guerre."
Hinky-dinky, parlez-vous.
