Journaling: My mother and I were very close. As an adult, in addition to being my mother, she became one of my closest friends. When she passed in September of 2003, my chosen brothers and sisters in my life, my family and the people who knew her as "Mom,” stayed close to me and protected me, even in their own grief. During that time I sometimes felt smothered but looking back I can't possibly express how valuable every last one of them was to me. I needed my alone time to grieve but that did need to wait until they all knew I was safe.
