When my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast and lung cancer, my life was thrown into a whirlwind of anxiety and fear. I lived 5-6 hours away from her, and I couldn’t be with her throughout the doctor’s appointments, hospital visits, and chemotherapy, and it was killing me. One day Mom told me that when she went to chemo, that she was always cold. A light dawned that if I couldn’t hug her and be with her in person, I could be there in another way. I bought some yarn, and made this afghan for her. Every stitch was filled with my love and prayers for her and her healing. She brought it with her every treatment, and many people commented on it as to how beautiful it was. She delighted in telling them that it was hand made with love and filled with my prayers for her. My Momma beat cancer! Unfortunately, a car accident would take her on Christmas Day 2015. I got the afghan back, and I wrapped it around my neck and felt my Momma hug me back. Soon after, a friend was diagnosed with cancer and I sent the afghan to her. She did not make it. I hope the afghan is giving her daughters a big hug of love as they remember their Momma.
