JOURNALING: As part of the annual Summer Jam West festival in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus OH, a permanent public art piece is constructed. The first such work, in 2015, was “On the Wings of Change” erected in Westgate Park. The stainless steel and copper sculpture of the life cycle of a monarch butterfly stands 14 feet high and weighs 500 lbs. The caterpillar is made from a 4 inch flexible duct pipe. The butterfly sits atop a Sullivant’s milkweed, named for William S. Sullivant, a local botanist and son of Lucas Sullivant, founder of Franklinton, the first American settlement in Franklin County Ohio. 10/24/18
