In case it isn't clear from my layout, this letter is from me to myself. So often I think we get lost in the world, feel overwhelmed by life, that we forget to appreciate ourselves, to pat ourselves on the back, think positively about our gifts, talents, and attributes. I'd been feeling a little down lately and so I thought this challenge would be the perfect opportunity to recognize that while I have so many people in my life that I love and appreciate, I love myself too and I am grateful to be me.

My journaling reads:
Dear Jen,
Sometimes in the turmoil of life, it is easy to forget how very special you are. Sometimes you need to be reminded. I think that this is one of those times. I want you to know what a beautiful and unique woman you are. You have so many talents. You have a real gift for creativity, a gift that is widely recognized by others. You are smart, really smart. I know that sometimes you don’t always feel that way, but not feeling it doesn’t make it less true. You are genuine and virtuous. You strive to be upright and respectable. You are a rule follower. You are eccentric, silly, and funny. Your clever words and puns make others laugh. You bring people joy, as a sister, a daughter, a friend. The people around you, those you love, admire, and respect, are a testament to the kind of person that you are. You surround yourself with people of strong character, people like you. You are a gifted writer. You are bold and strong – stronger than you sometimes think. You are beautiful. I know how easy it is to look at yourself in the mirror and focus on what isn’t – your hair isn’t quite right, you’ve gained too much weight. These are not the things that matter though. Your hair will someday gray, your skin will age, but you’ll still be the same person inside. You’ll have the same talents, the same strong character and witty ways. You will always be beautiful to me, because I can see the real you. I am proud of the person that you are. I admire that you allow yourself to evolve, that each day you grow stronger and wiser, learning from the past, striving to be a better person. I am glad that you are who you are Jen, that you are me.
