Many years ago, when I first started patchwork quilting, I watched a program about English Paper Piecing. Fell in love with the idea! I love the dimensionality of the baby block pattern and since I was not ready to try 60 degree angles, thought that would be the best pattern for this project. I was going to go all out and make a queen size quilt all by hand sewing. Then reality got in the way! I was working full time then and on call. Many other quilts I wanted to make also. So, my project was pushed to the side.
As time (years) passed, I started developing arthritis in my hands and I couldn't hold a needle without a lot of pain. Cortisone shots helped for a while but not enough to convince me to bring my project to the top of the list. The day came that I needed to downsize my material. I looked at what I had cut out ready to be sewn on the paper and decided it was time to just let it go. Carol was talking to me about it and said she would take the material so I didn't just throw it all away. Carol talked to Bev (who was also quilting with her daughter Robbin) and they decided to finish what I started. It must have been an interesting project for them as Carol lives in Wisconsin and Bev in North Carolilna! I am told they mailed blocks back and forth.
Bev had Robbin and several of her quilting friends help her. Some of them had not heard of this manner of quilting. When the pieces were all sewn together, Carol and her daughter tied it together. All that was left was sewing the binding on which both Carol and Bev worked at.
We had an annual Sister Christmas party every year. Carol and Bev wrapped up the quilt and gave it to me at one of our parties! It was a really nice surprise to open! It is not a queen size quilt but even better, it is a nice wall hanging size that has tons and tons of love sewn into it!
