Uncle Bill turned 30 on March 17, 1984. To celebrate, the whole extended family gathered at Abbotts' for a surprise "Over the Hill" party! Janet made a special shirt for Danny to wear to annoy Bill with, and all of us kids gathered up in the loft to hide from him. When he came into the room, we blew the party blowers and then everyone sang Happy Birthday. He knew we were all planning a get-together, because you can't quite hide that many people in a house, but he wasn't prepared for the fact we made such a big deal about it.
Mom had forgotten to pack pajamas with green on them. I lost a tooth the day before the celebration, and I was sure the tooth fairy was going to pinch me when she came because I wasn't wearing any green. I wore a piece of paper with a drawing of a four-leaf clover on it, safety-pinned to my pajamas so that I would be wearing green.
