On This Day In History...
Easter Sunday 1934, Department of Public Safety Motorcycle Troopers Edward Bryan Wheeler and Holloway David Murphy were on routine patrol on Highway 114 in current day Southlake, when they spotted a car parked on the side of the road north of 114 on Dove Road. The troopers pulled in thinking the car was a stranded motorist.
As they dismounted their motorcycles and approached the vehicle, members of the Barrow gang opened up with a barrage of gunfire killing both troopers. Both lawmen were based out of the DPS Ft.Worth headquarters. Trooper Wheeler was a Ft.Worth resident. Trooper Murphy was to be married in less than two weeks, and his wife to be, had just moved into a new apartment in Ft.Worth where they were to live.
Seven weeks later, on May 23rd, a posse of former and current lawmen including: former Texas Rangers Frank Hamer and Maney Gault, Deputy Sheriffs Ted Hinton and Robert Alcorn (Dallas), Bienville Parish Sheriff Henderson Jordan, Bienville Chief Deputy Prentiss Oakley shot and killed Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow on Hwy 154, eight miles south of Gibsland, La.
Today, a granite historic memorial stands in honor of Trooper Wheeler and Murphy at the spot on Dove Road where they gave their lives in the name of the law. Rest In Peace gentlemen.

I extracted the two troopers
