Journaling:

My parents were never cooks. My mom made maybe 4 different dishes that I can remember. My dad usually made dinners, but he likes bland food so they were never anything special. Holiday dinners were always spent at family member’s houses, such as aunts, uncles or grandparents, and the hosts always cooked.  Eventually, as families do, our family expanded and aunts and uncles started doing holidays with their expanding immediate families.  My grandparents started getting too old to host holiday dinners and eventually moved to a retirement home.  My immediate family was left to fend for ourselves (lol).  My parents weren’t going to change their ways, so I took up the challenge and started cooking holiday meals for our family.  I searched for recipes everywhere and every holiday we had a different menu because I wanted to find the dishes we all enjoyed and would like as a treat on the holidays.  I still rotate some recipes every holiday, but Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts have found their way into our list of holiday staples.  They are a tradition that is only a few years old, but, I think, will stand the test of time.
