Leonard Brothers Subway
I can remember as a child riding on the subway to Leonard’s Department store. It was the closest thing to a train ride I will probably ever get. Mother, gram and I would sometimes ride the subway train. But my favorite memory was when I was old enough to go downtown by myself or with friends. I would take what money i had and go to Woolworths lunch counter and eat lunch. Then I would either go shopping or to a movie. Sometimes I would ride the subway back and forth just to be riding it. Leonard Brothers built the subway in February of 1962. Tandy bought it and Leonard Brothers in 1967. They tore down the Leonard Brothers store and build a downtown mall, it had restaurants and an ice skating rink, when I got older I would take my daughter and her friends to the ice rink. They closed the whole thing down in August of 2002.
