Journaling reads:
California went into lockdown on March 19th.  Our office had ordered staff to work from home beginning March 9th.  I retired on March 31st with very little fanfare.  THAT is when my life really changed.  April 1st I got up at 6:30 in the morning and met my friend Pam for our first day of social distanced walking.  We have met almost every day since and the walk has gradually increased from two miles to somewhere between five and seven miles depending on the day.  We wander, we chat, we admire our neighbour's gardens, but most of all we wave and say hello to our fellow walkers.  We are a retirement community with many at risk residents.  Folks are so respectful of each other, carefully moving away to a comfortable distance and always saying a cheery hello.  Some folks wear masks, some don’t, some do ‘drive-by masking.’  No one judges. As we walk, we find cheery messages from the chalkers in the village.  There is nothing more uplifting than a cheery wave and a new chalk message on our early morning walk. We feel safe in our little community, protected from the world.
