This is for an alphabet challenge at another site. I'm doing television shows as my theme this go-round. JOURNALING: "Emergency!",  about firefighter/paramedics, aired 1972-77. Created by Jack Webb, the story centered on young "John Gage" (Randolph Mantooth) and family man "Roy DeSoto" (Kevin Tighe) at Firehouse 51. At the time, there were only 12 paramedic programs in the country. The first episode of "Emergency" focused on the passage of the law signed by Gov. Ronald Reagan in 1970 that allowed paramedics to operate. They had to call into an ER room at "Rampart General Hospital" headed by "Dr. Kelly Brackett" (Robert Fuller),  "Dr. Joe Early" (Bobby Troup), and head nurse "Dixie McCall" (Julie London, Jack Webb's ex-wife and Troup's wife). The doctors would listen to the paramedic's assessment of the situation in the field via a "biophone" which could transmit EKG and voice, and tell them what to do. Real firefighters appeared in the series and Mantooth and Tighe underwent some paramedic training. The series is credited with having helped promote the expansion of paramedic services nationwide.
