Journaling: Last minute morning requests - we all get ‘em (anyone with kids does!) Some we deal with, others we just flat refuse. For example, Ian knows that if he doesn’t ask me to pack his lunch the night before, he is eating in the school cafeteria the next day. Now wardrobe changes are a different matter. Ian gets his own clothes out in the morning, so if he wants to change shirts 5 times, I am ok with it. Sometimes, on a cold morning, he will ask me to put his jeans in the dryer for a few minutes. No problem. He pretty much has his morning routine down without any help from me.

Now the other morning, Ian was a little on the cranky side when he woke up and the fact that his sock drawer was empty didn’t make things much better. Sam was up early and was getting some socks out of the dryer for himself, so when Ian saw Sam at the dryer, he asked for some socks, too. Sam got a pair, handed it to Ian, and he said “No, I want short sleeved socks!” We all have a few pet sayings, but short sleeved socks? Never heard of that one before!

What he meant was the short cuff (quarter inch) rather than the longer one (one inch). Strange way to say it, but hey, he’s seven so I’ll just get used to it! I really don’t know why Ian prefers those socks to the others, especially since he always wants to wear jeans (as opposed to shorts) no matter what the temperature. Ian has a very strong sense of fashion, so I am just going to let this one go and chalk it up to the funny things that kids say
