Every Thanksgiving, I remember my great-uncle John, my grandpa's brother, on the left in the top picture. I didn't meet him until the family reunion in 1987, but from then on he always visited with us when he came through. He worked in Hollywood and on the production crews for NBC. When he retired, he and his wife built a log cabin in Sequim, so we got to see them more often then because they would stay with Grandma & Grandpa when they would come through on their way to or from California, where their kids still lived.
He smoked for years, and eventually got esophageal cancer. The doctors who diagnosed him said he only has three months to live, but he made it longer than that! That Thanksgiving, which he was not expected to live until, we gathered at their house to celebrate. That was in 1994. When we went around the table and said what we were thankful for, he just held up one finger, looked at it, cracked a smile, and said, with a twinkle in his eye, "One more year, baby, one more year.” Every year after that until he died in 2002, he would say the same thing, and the rest of us would sometimes say it with him.
I used the GS birthday challenge template from this year from The Cherry On Top and everything else is from “Fall in Love” by the GingerBread Ladies/CathyK/Laurie’s Scraps/PrelestnayaP/ADBDesigns.
