Since my dad and uncle are in the vulnerable group, age- and health-wise, we didn't get together with them this Christmas like we have in the past. It felt very weird, but it keeps everyone as safe as we can be in these times. Scott completely forgot that it was Christmas Eve and slept most of the day! He did go out to pick up one of my Christmas presents, but it still didn't register that it was Christmas Eve! I wasn't sure his present would get here in time, but it came while he was out getting mine. He uses paring knives a lot and we only have two, so I thought I'd get him more. He was surprised that I thought that would be a good present, since he didn't think we needed any more. I told him if he thought of anything he'd like besides that, to just let me know. I saw a spider on the ceiling and tried to stand on a chair to get it. I didn't even make it all the way on the chair before I was falling backward! I didn't hit my head, because I tucked into a somersault position, but I landed on my butt and my back. I was right by the cats' water bowl, and my hair tips landed in it, so I had to take another shower! I called Dad and Uncle David to wish them a Merry Christmas. I listened to NRK Super Jul (a Norwegian Christmas radio station) for most of the day, then did the Christmas Eve service on YouTube. After it was over, Scott and I went to Jack-in-the-Box and sat in a long line that didn't move at all. Finally, someone got out of their car and let others know that it was closed! They had closed before any of us in line got there, and the first person in line didn't move their car because they thought if they waited there long enough someone would come. We went there on Christmas Day instead, but we ended up getting hotdogs at 7-11 for dinner.
On Christmas Day, my dad came over for an outside visit and to bring us Christmas goodies: lefse, butter, potato rolls, geitost (goat cheese), apples, and oranges. We gave the cats some canned food (a treat for them) for their holiday dinner, then went and got our dinner. We watched a movie while we ate. We hadn't done that in a while.
All in all, it wasn't how anyone wanted to spend Christmas, but it was nice anyway. I hope next year we will get to spend the holiday together with family, but I'm grateful that we've made it this far.
