Always so much to see when traveling when one is willing to look. We were waiting to tour the Notre Dame Basilical in Ottawa but arrived too early. Low and behold, this spider statue was just across the street from it... turns out this is a pretty famous spider that has made it's way around the world. There are marble stone eggs in it's belly... and the artist said this represented her mom.
The Spider is an ode to my mother. She was my best friend. Like a spider, my mother was a weaver. My family was in the business of tapestry restoration, and my mother was in charge of the workshop. Like spiders, my mother was very clever. Spiders are friendly presences that eat mosquitoes. We know that mosquitoes spread diseases and are therefore unwanted.
