The elite Greek soldiers, trained to preform ceremonial duties such as guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, The presidential Palace and raising the flag at the Acropolis are known as Evzones. Their uniform (fustanella) is the main uniform worn during the Ottoman Empire, 15th and 16th centuries, was designed to show a man’s strength and prowess. It is believed that King Otto misses the sounds of horses which he loved. To make it feel like he was more at home he made his guards walk “funny” to replicate the sound. Being located in the Syntagma Square in Athens, The tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a war memorial in front of the Old Royal Palace. Fokion Rok sculpted it between 1930 and 1932.
