Journaling -  We spent four nights at Indian Cave Sate Park in Nebraska. It was a quiet relaxing stay after having visited with the kids and their families for a week and a half. We were disappointed with the tourist attraction cave. It really wasn’t much more than a weather eroded overhang - something like a grotto. It did seem there may have been an opening to a small cave but it was off limits to exploration. The advertised petroglyphs were another disappointment. Little was visible from the viewing platform and like most petroglyph areas, there was more modern day carvings rather than ancient Native American drawings. Those were best seen by looking at the pictures posted at the information kiosk. The land which comprises the state park was once set aside as a Half-Breed Reservation to help the children of mixed marriages (children of white men and tribal women)  get settled in society. They lacked support systems from their families because of tribal rules of descent and membership and discrimination from European-American society.
