JOURNALING –  This wonderful quote by Roger Caras sums up how I feel about the love, joy, companionship and emotional help I can directly attribute to the dogs that have been in my life.

Years ago, during a crisis in my life where I just wanted to stay in bed and wallow in self-pity, I had two English Setters that depended on me.  I had to get up every day to take care of them. In turn, they lavished me with doggy kisses and wagging tails when I was sitting on the floor crying.

My very first Papillon, Bijou, was my “heart dog”.  He was the smartest dog I’ve ever known and was my best friend.  He enjoyed riding in the car with me and I took him everywhere. We had many little “adventures” together and enjoyed working on agility and nose work.  I was so blessed to have him in my life when my husband wasn’t always available.

Of late, I’ve been struggling with finding a purpose to my life. I’m retired, a widow, and have no children living nearby. Even my aged Chihuahua, Cocoa Bean, no longer likes to be in my lap when I read.  She’s blind and partially deaf and prefers to burrow into her fluffy bed and sleep.  I foolishly was questioning my “identity” because my screen name is “Pups_r_Paps” and I no longer had any Papillons!!  I was living a lie!

Well, now I have a Papillon puppy, Bennett, to fill my time and bring a new sense of purpose to my life!  Uh, oh, my “purpose” right now is to pick up the poop that missed the pee pad! Bye.
