Paczki 2-3-23
Journaling:
It’s Paczki time at Baker’s Nook and other bakeries in our area. YUM! Baker’s Nook started making their Pacskis a couple of weeks early due to many requests and have 3 new flavors this year, peanut butter fluff with chocolate topping, chocolate fluff with chocolate topping and a special one for Valentine’s Day, strawberry with chocolate topping which I can’t wait to try. The peanut butter one that I chose to try first was amazing.
What are Pacszkis and why do we eat them this time of year?
Paczki are deep-fried yeast-based round pieces of dough that are filled with different types of fillings and glazed with icing or dusted with powdered sugar… basically a Polish donut. The history of the Paczki traditions is that the Tuesday before lent, people of Poland used up food so that it would not be spoiled or wasted. Families would use up their eggs, butter and sugar and fruit by treating themselves one last time before Lent began with these rich donuts. Recently, Paczki Day has expanded as more people have heard about this Polish tradition and want to become a part of this tasty holiday. Paczki can be found up to a month before Fat Tuesday in almost every food store: deli, grocery and bakery. People just cannot pass up a delicious food holiday and Paczki Day can be considered one of the best.
