I had just given birth to my first child on March 29, 1959. My birthday is April 7 and this was my first time away from home, still in the newly wed frame of mind and a new mother. I was so disappointed that morning because my husband never said happy birthday to me before he left for work. I was really depressed but, later that day my mother came over. I was telling her about Darrell not remembering to tell me happy birthday. We had a nice visit before she needed to be on her way. Later that afternoon I received some really pretty cut flowers with a card saying Happy Birthday Love Kathleen. Kathleen is the name we gave our newborn daughter! I called Mom and told her how excited I was that Darrell sent me flowers in Kathleen’s name. Mom never said a word. When Darrell came home he had a cake with him, but said he didn’t send me the flowers in Kathleen’s name. I will always remember that birthday even though it started on a sour note.  Every birthday from then on, I received a plant or flowers from Kathleen and her fairy god mother. When she was 10 years old, Kathleen received a poem from her Fairy Godmother. In the poem Kathleen was told that now she was old enough to make my birthday special herself, so her Fairy godmother was stepping down. Sixty four years later, Kathleen always does her best to make my day special.
